It seems to be becoming a pattern for me that as Christmas approaches I realise I’m going to need to splash out on some new makeup. I’m the type of person that wears makeup everyday but it’s more of a ‘no-makeup makeup’ look so lippie and eye makeup is reserved for nights out only. With Christmas being party season I need to make sure I’ve got enough makeup to keep me going!
As I don’t wear eyeshadow often I usually find myself buying individual shadows or very small palettes but this time I decided to find a larger palette with a wide variety of colours in the hope that it will last me a really long time and can offer loads of different looks. That’s why I went for the Soph X Makeup Revolution palette, I’ve heard so many good reviews about it and the colour range is fab as you can see from the photo. The best thing is the price, I still can’t get over the fact that this is only £10!
I love matte liquid lipsticks so I’ve been wanting to try the Retro Luxe lip kit for a while. I went for the shade Echelon, not very Christmassy I know but this one is more for daytime Christmas outings when I don’t want to worry about re-applying every time I eat something. The colour is quite close in tone to my natural lip colour so even when it’s wearing off it looks fine, although it is actually very good for lasting power and is comfortable to wear, not bad for just £6 (including a lip liner!)
Superdrug currently have an offer on – if you spend £12 on Makeup Revolution you can choose a free Revoholic Rewards eyeshadow palette so I went for the Fierce as Fire palette which has lots of lovely warm tones. There’s three others to choose from, each with a different theme. I think this is a brilliant offer, especially at this time of year because I’m probably going to use this palette as a stocking filler for someone.
When I was in Boots yesterday I had only nipped in to repurchase the Max Factor Facefinity foundation (click here for review) because I needed a lighter shade (my winter skin is well and truly here!). But I spotted they had an offer where if you spend £15 you receive a free gift worth £36. So I added a nail polish (Max Effect in the shade 14 Dazzling Blue) to my basket which just took me over the £15 spend. The gift includes a makeup bag, eye liner, lipstick, mascara and primer. I knew this would be great for me because I definitely need a new mascara and the lip colour in the kit would be perfect for me to wear on Christmas Day – it’s a deep pinky-red with a gold sheen running through it. It feels lovely and creamy on the lips so I’d be surprised if it lasts up to 8 hours as claimed but I could be wrong, it’s quick and easy to apply so not an issue either way for me. Unfortunately I can’t tell you the shade name as it isn’t on the packaging.
The mascara they’ve included is the False Lash Epic mascara in black and I’m loving it already, I’d say it’s comparable to Benefit Roller Lash in that it doesn’t clump at all, it just separates, lengthens and curls the lashes… I can see this becoming my new favourite mascara.
I’m not sure how I feel about the Masterpiece High Precision liquid eyeliner because it has a very chunky tip so I’m not sure how precise you could be with it. I’d say it’s probably great for people who like dramatic winged liner.
I’m looking forward to testing the Smooth Miracle primer, I’m currently using the Facefinity primer which I love but I think this one could be good because it claims to smooth skin’s texture which should create a perfect base for makeup.
So that’s me all stocked up on makeup for December and it hasn’t broken the bank which I’m very pleased about. It does seem to be a good time of year to buy makeup because a lot of the brands seem to have special offers on so grab them while you can!
